  1. I just read this book – from a free promotion on Amazon – and I also listened to the audio version. It was great, thank you very much. There were a few mistakes by the reader in the audio version – is she a mother-tongue speaker? She did the names and accents well, though, and that was nice. But the plot was fantastic and the moral argument for street justice was wonderful, and so subtle and believable.

    1. Thanks for your very helpful comments, Carmen. Re: your question about the narrator, see my reply to Tshepo (March 17). In addition, I thought it would be ideologically (and politically?) wrong for me to narrate my own book this time, because of the race and genders of the vast majority of the characters. So I contracted a Zulu-and-Sotho-speaking woman to do it. She does the accents and pronunications of names and expressions far better than I could ever manage it. There’s a trade-off in respect of RP (“Received pronunciation” – see the Concise Oxford English Dictionary definition of : “the standard accent of English as spoken in the south of England”) and authenticity. I hope readers/listeners will forgive the occasional quirks in return for some of that authenticity.

  2. Amazing article. I’m reading some of your work now and I think it’s brilliant. Very good writing. Keep it up.

Fascinating. I just listend to the audio of your Ryder quartet. Liked it very much.

  4. Just read the Mashego book. Brilliant. Loved this story about the cover, too.

  5. This is fascinating. I’ve just bought the book because I enjoyed the story about the mannequin so much. In fact, I bought two of your books!

  6. I’m glad I read this. I’ll also go and get it. I remember seeing the book advertised. I loved “Devil Dealer”, by the way.

  7. I didn’t like the cover till I read this. Now I do. I’ll get the book for sure.

  8. Great article. Fascinating. Loved the book, too.

  9. This is a fantastically interesting article. I love the photo, and the adaptation of it into the cover of the book is excellent. Have just bought the book.

    1. Thanks, Matt. Hope you enjoy it.

Good article about the cover. I’ve just bought your quartet. Will get to The Mashego Book later on.

  11. Very fascinating. I’ve just started with your books. Plain dealing is superb. Will get to the others too.

    1. Thanks, Jo. I enjoyed researching Plain Dealing. I visited the location of each one of the action scenes. I must have looked suspicious, prowling in the bushes to get the right tree with the right view for my purposes, etc.

  12. Amazing story. Amazing book. When will the next episode starring Mashego appear?

    1. Thanks, Tshepo. I’ve started the next Mashego book, but I’m also spending lots of time editing the audiobook of the first one. I commissioned a wonderful singer/actress to do it and I love the accents and characterisations she has done but by her own admission she has never voiced an audiobook before and it needs a bit of re-working. She speaks isiZulu and isiSotho fluently and she’s done wonderful things, but there are some edits required.
