Promoting Indie Authors

Here’s the result of my latest (March 2019) FREE promotion:

This follows on from my previous promotion three months ago (Amazon gives authors in KDP Select the opportunity to run free promotions in every 90 day cycle). That produced the following result on 16th December:

So what’s this all about? Well, like many thousands of “Indie” authors I don’t have access to either a marketing department or a large advertising budget (although I do have access to Beta readers who have provided wonderful support, encouragement and constructively critical advice).  I initially set out to write merely for my own enjoyment and because I had this burning need to write about the kind of crime that my father, in his day, investigated (he was a Detective in the Durban CID).

But why write if nobody is going to read what you write? Why should readers know your book exists? There are millions of books out there. Why should yours be the one they choose to read? Therefore, the aim in these free promos is to try and get into the top 100 in the FREE category, amongst many thousands competing for that ranking every day, so that one’s books will be noticed by readers looking for bargains. If those readers like what they read for free, they might be tempted to read further.

Once again, I’m grateful to those many readers who, having got their bargain free copy of my book and as a consequence pushed me to the top of the ratings, then go on to purchase either my other books or my audiobooks. As I’ve stated previously, giving away for free the fruits of one’s hard work is not easy, but it definitely helps bring that work to the attention of prospective buyers. So I remain grateful to all my readers for their support.

As always, on the Amazon site where you made your purchase or downloaded my work, or on the Goodreads site HERE, please leave an honest review of any of the books you have read…

I thought these books were wonderful. I listened to the audio version of The Ryder Quarto and I was enthralled. I was also shocked at how real the crimes were. I have lots of friends in Southern Africa and the crime is just like what you write about in these books. Thank you.

  2. Thank you, both. Much appreciated.

Very well done. I have just reviewed your anthology on Goodreads. Very good, I must say.

That’s really interesting. Thank you. I just picked up one of your free books and look forward to reading it. I also have an audiobook of yours but haven’t listened to it yet. I will now! I thought this information about independent authors is so interesting.
